You can only make a Teddy Bear guinea pig (or cavy) by breeding 2 Teddy Bear guinea pigs together. You cannot breed 2 other breeds and try to make another---it doesn't work that way. You're implying that if someone bred a Rottweiler and a Greyhound they could get a Doberman. Doesn't work. Teddy Bear guinea pigs are, essentially, a short-haired guinea pig that carries the 'rex' gene---which curls the fur. This gene popped up as an anomally and breeders began to recreate it by breeding two animals who possessed the gene together. You cannot recreate that in one generation and by using 2 other breeds of guinea pig (neither of which likely carry the necessary genetic information to produce a teddy bear).
If you want a teddy bear guinea pig, adopt one from a shelter, or contact a reputable and responsible breeder of them.
to mary_parmer: The 'Teddy' guinea pig is often times called a 'Teddy Bear' guinea pig in many establishments that sell them. It is not the official name, of course. But the poster is obviously not a cavy breeder/shower, and so is going off of pet-store lingo.
Also, please note that I said in ONE generation and with animals unlikely to carry the rex gene. Your own breeding for the rex fur took 2 generations and thus my initial statement is still applicable. You cannot get the rex gene in ONE generation from a set of parents who will likely NOT carry that gene (because breeders should not be breeding long-haireds or short-haireds who display evidence of carrying this gene and the chances of BOTH carrying the needed rex gene for it to be produced in the offspring in one generation is extremely unlikely).
WTF is a teddy bear guinea pig? I know what a Teddy is but have never heard of a teddy bear. The best thing to do is breed two of the same breed to get that breed. To the person who answered above me it is possible to breed two unlike coat types and get the intended coat type. EX rex bred to teddy = short flat coat American. American bred back to rex or teddy = rex or teddy. It all depends on what the animals genetics are. I have a for all intensive purposes an American Brindle, that american had alpaca and texel babies.
But for you the guy that asked the question just buy a good breeding pair or trio of the Teddy bear things.
