What kind of horse was Mr. Ed?

He was a Palomino who weighed roughly 1100 pounds.

Although in the show Mr. Ed was 8 years old, Bamboo Harvester was actually 11.

He was purchased for $1500.

Bamboo Harvester died in 1970. He suffered from a number of ailments and was put to sleep.

He had peanut butter placed on his gums. Not "glass" like structures as someone else above stated.Animal rights threw that information in roughly 8 years ago as it was becoming common for "stunts" as they felt it was "inhumane".

He was a Zebra. The horse they were going to use didn't work out. They used a zebra it was trained better. You could not tell because of the way color is on back and white tv. I went back looked only used zebra a few times.

He looked like a palomino Quarter Horse to me. Palomino is a color, not a breed. It is three shades darker or lighter than a newly mintedgold coin, with white mane, tail and sometimes white markings. The horses who played Mr. Ed looked like quarter horses according to their build.

I am not sure of the breed but his color was a palomino. Now some of you might not belive me but my great grandfather was Mr. Ed's first owner. He owned Mr.Ed's dam and sire, or mom and dad. He sold Mr.Ed to Hollywood when Mr.Ed was a yearling, or a year to two year old. The sad thing is to make Mr. Ed talk was that they had to but peanut butter and shards of glass in his mouth. Even though he went through all of that pain he was very loved horse.
