my parents have finally caved! what should i get?
they will not let me get any reptiles, aracnids, dogs or cats.
please help! the pet i pick gets 10 points!;)

get a rat! sounds nasty but it's not. people who say a hamster don't know that hamstre's poop in thier food dish. so do gerbils. rats r clean believe it or not. take care of it and it will do tricks and luv u. also mice r boring to. :p

How about a male beta fish? They are very pretty, don't take up much room and are easy to care for. This might be a good first pet.
Why don't you get a guinea pig or a rabbit or a ferret or maybe even a bird.
Without dogs or cats I'd suggest a ferret, but I doubt your parents would go for that because they kinda smell funny and require a lot of attention and work. However, they have great personalities and have been domestic pets for hundreds of years.
If you want something low maintenance and really cute but with little personality I'd go with a Hedgehog.
Well you certainly have norrowed the list down - No reptiles, no arachnids or dogs or cats - that leaves us with a few choices and you have to ask yourself what kind of a pet would you enjoy the most? A pair of ferrets? A talking or singing bird or two? A bunny rabit or two of the same sex? A Sugar Glider?
A Skunk? A hamster or guinea pig or a porcupine or maybe a nice aquarium? I would also check around the local animal shelters to see what animals are available for adoption and to talk to people who own these pets and then try to figure out what would provide you with the most fun that you won;t get tired of cleaning up after. Well you could get a male beta fish.You can find them at the pet store and are about 4 dollars.They're really easy to take care of them.Or you could get a hamster or a gerbil.But beware hamsters are nocturnal and do make noises at night.You could get a pet bird.I have a male and a female cockatiel birds.They are great pets but if you get 1 you should get it a buddy because birds don 't like to be alone.Have you thought about some pet chickens.Most cities allow them and they do make good pets.You can hand raise a couple of chicks because chickens are social animals and are not happy alone.You shouldn't have 2 roosters together because they will fight, but 2 hens are happy together and they do lay eggs.This may sound silly but you could even get a minature horse!They do just fine in a yard and by themselves.Whatever you choose I wish you luck in finding the perfect pet.

how about fish? altho then you have the trouble of cleaning aquarium, etc. neon tetra fish are pretty. also, it has been mentioned, the beta fish is good
ooh, what about frogs? you can start out with a tadpole and watch its development into a frog..and since it's amphibian and not reptile.
