What should you do when you knock a dog down? Does anone know of a vet in belfast who will treat stray dogs?

We just hit a dog in our car. I checked him over for broken bones and he appeared to be fine, although I could see a little blood on the pavement (it was hard to see as it was dark). The dog was an old labradore. I am worried incase he may have internal bleeding or something else which would lead to him dying a horribe death. Is there any 24 hour vets in Belfast who will treat stray dogs? Thanks.

By law you should inform the police.
I think you are supposed to report it to the police, Only dogs not cats!
Don't live there so don't know vet.
Why not look up a dog rescue place in the phone book.
But, where is the dog now if it is a stray?

By law you are supposed to report hitting a dog. I would presume you call the police and they would deal with it. Failing that do you have P.D.S.A. over there? If not just call out a local vet because they will treat the dog and I don't think you have to pay. I would presume because it is not your dog then the local animal welfare people will foot the bill until the owner is found but you must get this dog to a vet, if it has internal bleeding it may look ok but it will die.
you need to inform the police so they can collect the dog and take it to a vetinerian clinic, and look up files to see if they can find its owners. i dont quite know why your on here writing about what you should be doing, you should have done it by now! this dog could die if you leave it any longer and then you will fell bad as it will be your fault, sort it out now before you have a dead dog on your hands.
i think you are meant to report it to the police
Typically you would report this to animal control. Animal control has an oncall veterinarian that handles hit-by-car accidents.
get him to a vet and worry about money later. He may have an Identity micro chip, so think about him and his owner and off to the vet! THE POLICE are too busy and he may need help asap - so get to a vet - and he will advise you from there about police etc
I would take the dog to a vet as he may have a microchip that the vet will be able to read. So that you can tell his probably distraught owner where he might be. Please do this as he is somebodys pet.
