What should be the penalty for forcing pit-bulls to fight?

I'm a veterinarian at a low-rent part of Compton. At least daily, people bring me a mauled dog to care for. these must be good fighters because I understand most of the losers are killed.

I wouldn't have thought about it, until one family brought me 3 mauled dogs over a single weekend. No way that's accidental. Then the husband tried to extort anti-biotics from me with threats of violence. He later (probably it was him) threw a BRICK through my windshield and popped all of my tires.

Think about the dogs. They are only doing what is expected of them. Google it, or check the links on wikipedia. People who force dogs to fight are COWARDS. You are afraid. You won't get in the ring yourself and you make a dog do all your dirty work. For a bet and some money. **!

I promise you if you show me a dog-fighter, I could show you a felon, a drug dealer and a child abuser.

You should be punished for making dogs fight. The most creative punishment gets "best answer".
Answers:
They should be starved, then beaten, then put in a ring with other owners that have done the same thing to other dogs. Then they should be forced to fight it out til theres only one left standing, and the guy who wins should have to clean up the mess.
People that do this are a disgrace to dog lovers, and as a best friend of a veterinarian, a disgrace to animal lovers.
they should serve jail time. pretty simple.
OMG i LUV DOGZz iVE HAD 2 PiiTZz MAii SELF ND SEEiNG A DOG WUD KiLL Mii iNSiDE..i THiNK DEY SHOULD GET THE LEAST 10 YRZz DOGZz SHOULD B TREATED LiiKE CHiLDREN BECAUSE THEY HAVE FEELiNGZz AND A LiiFE 2
I think that if you make dogs fight, you get handcuffed and put in the ring with the dog you made fight. Then they will learn how it feels. If they are still alive, then they should serve a minumum of 15 years in jail.
take all the surviving dogs and put the person in the pen tied up and let them (the dogs) go for them till death I cannot believe how sick people are that do this, but jail time or what ever happens they have to answer to the lord and im sure they will burn in hell
I would rather make Peta employees starve and fight for the last piece of STEAK!!
Jail time and ordered never to own a pet. Not even fish.
Every year on the anniversary of their crime they should but put into a ring and mauled within an inch of their lives. Then yanked out, brought to a vet, and do it all over again the next year!
I couldn't agree w/you more. It's also for the Almighty dollar.
I was at my vets w/my pom %26 in the wait'n room was a beautiful Rottie w/3 mexican men. I ask why the dogs ears were all bitten up %26 front leg was swollen up larger than a persons leg. One answered me."A bear came in yard last night". After they left %26 I was called into the exm. room, I ask my vet about it. He stated, "that dog was in good shape, the one in the back of the truck was dead."
I was sickened..My vet was calling in the H. Soc.
People like this should get 15 yrs hard labor in Prison or beat to death w/cane poles.
Contact the police and advise them of whats happened. Everyplace I know of dog fighting is illegal and anyone found involved in it is subject to jail time and fines.

The Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is another good place to start along with the Humane Society. Even going to the dog pound and telling them the story should get action.

Good Luck!
I agree. I own two Pit Bulls myself. They are loyal. highly intelligent, and peaceful. They are also very intuitive and communicate their needs and their love very well. I would beat the F*ing crap out of someone that did this to a breed of dog that is far and above my favorite of all that I have loved and owned.

These promoters of these fights are self-centered object-orientated individuals. I would report them to the authorities, I would also organize a local chapter for adoption of these wonderful dogs. Do not believe the propaganda about these Pits. They are not by their nature viscious, but they are intelligent enough to follow their survival instincts. Pit Bulls are naturally playful and need a very physical owner to keep their activity level high.

I have seen many times where local chapters have been organized to help out this breed and get them to loving homes and away from these abusive owners. Do not give the dog back- report them instead.

In short I would like to see a Petition created that makes this a State offense, punishable by jail time and a substantial fine.
The punishment in kc is a minimum $250.00 to $1000.00 fine and or 6 months to 1 year in jail.

The problem is these people will get all the jail time and fines in the world. Jail time they never do all their time because they are the first ones with an early release so they can go get another dog and do the same thing. Fines they are selling drugs that is a drop in the bucket to them.

But what people fail to realize is Chicken fighting is just as cruel.

My punishment would be severe jail time 10 years hard labor first offense with no parole.
Hang him by the d. or her by the c. till it falls off. Landing them in the middle of the dogs that they use to fight. Then if they are alive after that. Put them in a jail cell with with an inmate on death row.
I'm on your side, however .
Preaching to 'the converted' probably makes you feel better but is a waste of time and you'll know that the only reason that this breed exists is for fighting and gambling. Any owner who keeps a pit-bull as a family pet prolongs the breeds miserable existence and places more people at risk of attack. You can train a beast to fight it's instincts and play with children, but it's still a beast.
they should get the same punishment that the pitbull got, except no medical help! :)
I agree with pit bulls having a bad reputation. They are very loving and loyal animals.

So when it comes to punishment for those who are ignorant enough to fight a dog for any reason I think (however illegal) they should be given the same courtesy they gave the dog.

First they need to be abuse by the wonderful Animal Service Officers and Veterinarians who have to witness the result of what happens to the "winners" and/or "losers". While wearing a choke or pinch collar that rips into their neck the entire time. Since training takes time so will the punishment.

Then they need to be put into a ring with no protection with police dogs that are properly trained to attack. And they will stay there until there life has ceased or they can heart-fully admit they were in the wrong and were truly sorry. And we all know someone who fights dogs has no heart so they can never truly admit mistakes or apologize.

So in the end they will be given the same fate, outcome and courtesy they gave the dog or the "loser". Because lets face it, that's what they are. A loser!!
I think all convicted dog fighters should be placed in a ring with a tiger or lion or polar bear and see how they like it.(just like the Romans used to do)
These people not only fight pit bulls but they adopt and steal other dogs (and other animals) for their fighters to practice on!
Has anyone seen "Cheaper by the Dozen"? Where they soak the boyfriends underpants in meat? Something like that, I think.

And then they should be put in a cage where they can barely lay down, and do it again in a weeks time- until they die of injuries/starvation- whichever comes first.
In recent years, pit bulls have gained more than just a foothold in the public awareness. Unscrupulous breeding and negative media attention have resulted in many apartment complexes, neighborhoods and even counties imposing bans on the breed, citing them as "inherently dangerous" to the public.
But did you know that pit bulls, despite the fact that they were originally bred to fight with each other, were also bred to be trustworthy and friendly to people? These dogs actually earned the nickname "nursemaid's dog," because they were so reliable with young children.

Today, however, the breed often attracts the worst kind of dog owners--those who are only interested in them for fighting or protection. It's a shame what has happened to this loyal and affectionate breed-but as the pit bull population has increased so rapidly, shelters are now struggling to deal with an overflow of image-plagued, hard-to-place dogs. And despite its illegality, people are still training and breeding pit bulls to participate in dog fights in cities and towns across the country.

I think we need to put the owners of the dogs that they train to fight in the ring with one of the opponents and fill his pockets with bloody meat and then let him tell us how much fun it was to get ripped apart by a bigger opponent. For Fun and money!
