A kitten or a playful puppy small size so you don,t have to throw it out-side all the time small dogs are more easy to go and come of course big doggies are great too.

Get a Min-Pin (minature doberman pincher) It may cost you a little.Go to the pound, then you know the dog has had all its shots..and a good check up..they make the best companion! They are also a 1 owner dog.meaning they will like other people, but they will be true to their master(you) One of the most loving, protective pets around.(It will drive yu nuts by following you everywhere all the time, unless you train it to sit and stay) I promise you, you won't be sorry! Our Sami was hit by a car, haven't replaced her yet, but we will.good luck. (use a leash)
you should get a cat, it can be playful, cute, very soft, gentle and they make gd pets.. the thing abt keeping a cat is that you don't have to take them for walks.. like mine he just plays ard the house.. you must be ready to care for them and give them lots and lots of love.. : )
get a kitty!! dogs are sometimes to much to handle, and they can cost tons of money. but kittens can be expensive too, so if your lookin for somthin cheaper, try a ferret. or even a guinea pig, of a hamster! there are many great choices. i'm planning to buy a guinea pig myself. they don't take too much room, and they don't need that much tending.
I think you should get a hermit crab. They are very easy to take care but u can still play with it.
